the owner is a jerk. he is from south africa. i think he has been watching too many sopranos shows because he thinks he is a tough guy. i had a run-in with him at the restaurant and he wanted to get physical. i wanted very much to send him to the hospital but being on probation i just backed off and left. he should remember there is always somebody tougher out there and his hot temper might some day be his undoing. better off to eat at McDonald's.the service is bad and the food sucks nnd is overpriced.
Michael

I had been to this restuarant many times and while I was never that impressed with the food I liked the location and atmosphere. It was never packed and I always could get a quiet table. Overall a good place to take a date to chat. The last time I went in I left my wallet and when I discovered this and called the owner was quite short with me. After he made it clear that he was going to be no help to me I told him that I would have to list La Vache as the last place that I had seen my wallet in the police report that I had to file for my bank. At this point he became extremely hostile, started yelling at me, and told me there would be "reprocussions" if I did this. After yelling back and forth for 5 minutes he finally told me that he did not need me as his customer and did not care if I ever came back and he did not care about my "pathetic little wallet."

One of the worst times that I have ever had with leaving something at a restuarant. I will never go there again and I will make sure that as many poeple as possible hear this story!
Loretta

I had a very similar experience to the other posting here, by George. I had gone to this restaurant with 2 friends - one a professional gourmet chef herself. We were appalled by the unattentive waiter who "talked back" to us and even more appalled when the owner came out - at our request - and upbraided us for ruffling his waiter's feathers. Needless to say, we got up and left, even though the food had FINALLY arrived by then. We went to Terra and had a very nice meal. By the way, when I tried to explain the problem to the owner in French - I spent about half my life in France - he didn't understand a word. Turns out he's from South Africa.mad

I went to La Vache with a group of 6 for a birthday lunch. We left after 1 1/4 hours because the food hadn't arrived and management was rude. We wanted to know how long it would take and the waitress gave a snippy answer, "it'll come when it's ready." Then the owner came out and was asking us not to harass the waitress. So, we left. We did try the french onion soup-it was mediocre.
