I thought I would get good seafood, specifically crab, and great service at a place called the Crab Catcher in a really nice location in La Jolla. The only type of crab they have is Alaskan king crab and maryland blue crab. When I asked why they don't have dungeness crab, the waiter replied "Cause it's too hard to prepare". I tried my best not to burst out laughing. The service I thought was very average. Not great, not horrible. Just plain average. Not what I expect when I am paying a $100 for dinner. The Alaskan king crab tasted like it had just been frozen and reheated and was extremely salty. For $40...not worth it. Needless to say, I will not be returning to the Crab Catcher anytime soon. After eating there, I spoke with a local San Dieagan, and he agreed that this place was not good for seafood. He said since it was bought out by the Chart House(??), he would not eat there himself. Also, there were bugs flying around all over by our table. I would say the one positive was the view we got of La Jolla Cove, really the only positive.

My first dining experience in La Jolla was here. We had a WONDERFUL dining experience. The food was amazing, and our server (I cant remember his name) was very knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. The food was mouth watering- especially the southern crabcakes. It was very busy when we were there and the whole staff worked as a team. I cant say enough good things about the Crab Catcher. I'll be back next time I am in town and will highly recommend it to all my freinds family and business partners.

My daughter and I had the worst dining experience at this establishment. Once we received our food, we never saw our waiter again. I watched as others were having "wine tastings" and others were offered the tray of desserts to select from. Our waiter never returned. I finally left my table and mentioned to the hostess that it appeared our waiter had forgotten us. She sent a waitress to get our ticket from our waiter, he even failed to return to our table to give us the bill. The waitress returned with the check, our waiter never came to us and appoligized. The hostess offered no appologies. We paid our bill, making sure to get our point across about the service, $85.00 + a $1.00 tip. The food was excellent, but I will never return to this establishment. I will also suggest to others that the view may be nice, they may get better service at a fast food establishments.
